Henry IV and Royalist Propaganda under the Restoration exhibition
From Thursday, February 11 2010 to Thursday, September 30 2010
A popular king.
The museum of Decorative Arts in Bordeaux has organised this exhibition in the context of the 400 year anniversary of the death of "good king" Henry IV of France, who was assassinated in 1610.
Within the Salon des Panoramiques, which houses the Jeanvrot collection, visitors will find a showcase of objects and miniatures conceived as propaganda for the first Bourbon king. In 1814, after the fall of Napoleon, these objects which highlight the engaging personality of Henry IV were used by Louis XVIII to justify the return of the royal family in France. Henry was a popular monarch thanks to his good financial management, his proximity to his subjects, and his tolerance for different religious sensibilities.
